Food Durham

OASES and Food Durham have been working with Montalbo Primary School getting families involved with growing food at school and at home. Rachel, an OASES officer has been delivering a series of after school clubs which give participants hands on experience of gardening. This has given adults and children the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to grow their own produce at home. Sessions also expanded the range of fruit and vegetables the children were willing to try, tasting the results of their efforts in the garden and using their produce in recipes at home.

“Thank you so much for the sessions you have delivered the last couple of days – we have taken so much away from you.” – Teacher, Seahouses Primary.

‘”I really liked the pea shoots, I’ve never had them before and they’re really nice actually” – Child participant
