Become a Coastal Schools Leader and safely lead Beach School programmes, getting learners outdoors and active. Learn practical skills such as fire and tool safety, be inspired by activities on the beach and gain health and safety and coastal ecology knowledge. You will then run sessions with your own group and complete a portfolio of evidence alongside the course.

This course leads to the NOCN Coastal School Leader Level 3 qualification and is appropriate for teachers, teaching assistants, EYFS practitioners and outdoor education specialists interested in using beach environments for learning.

Our trainers are experienced providers of outdoor learning and Beach Schools.

Who is it for?

Those working with children and young people who wish to deliver a beach school learning programme. You must be 19 years old or older to register for the course.

What does it involve?

-Attendance of a two day outdoor course at Blyth beach, Collywell Bay and an online twilight session.
-Delivery of 4 coastal/beach school sessions with your own group (please note, if you are working independently of a school or setting, you will need to source a group and insurance for these sessions).
-Completion of a comprehensive portfolio of evidence and reflection– learners have 12 months from the beginning of the course to complete their portfolio.

We recommend also completing an outdoor and paediatric first aid course, safeguarding course and food hygiene course.

The qualification consists of 5 units:
