Coasts and Caves

Our coasts and caves sessions provide an engaging, curriculum-based outdoor experience exploring the fascinating physical and human processes that shape our coastline. Pupils will investigate how waves, weathering and erosion work together to create features such as cliffs, caves, arches and stacks.

Through practical activities, pupils will discover how the coastline changes over time and develop their understanding of the physical processes that shape the landscapes around us.

This engaging outdoor geography session gives young people the opportunity to investigate and explore coastal landforms first-hand, make observations, and apply geographical knowledge to the world around them.

What pupils will learn

• How waves and weathering shape the coastline
• What coastal erosion is and how it changes the landscape
• How landforms such as caves, arches, stacks and stumps are formed
• How different rock types can influence coastal landforms
• How to identify and investigate physical coastal features
• How human activities and uses shape our coastlines
