Maloula The Mermaid and Eco Warrior

Engage your class with a beach session inspired by Maloula the Mermaid (and Eco Warrior), exploring the story’s themes of marine litter, caring for our surroundings and taking action to make a difference.

Through storytelling, discussion and fun hand-on activities, pupils will explore the beach, interact with Maloula’s story and consider what we can do to keep our beaches clean. The session will end with a beach litter pick so that your students will be able to contribute to helping the environment and feel like they’re making a real difference.

This engaging outdoor session combines literacy, environmental learning and practical action, giving young people the opportunity to connect the themes of the story with the world around them while working together to make a positive difference to their local area.

What pupils will learn

• How litter can travel from our communities into the sea
• How marine litter can affect wildlife and the environment
• How to identify and safely collect different types of beach litter
• The importance of making responsible choices about waste
