SHOCFlood, funded by the Northumbria Regional Flood and Coastal Committee and delivered by OASES, was a two-year project engaging eight communities in priority flood risk areas. Schools within these communities have taken a lead role in reducing flood risk, collaborating with the Environment Agency and Climate North East to raise awareness, promote positive actions, and enhance flood preparedness.

The Environment Agency identified eight communities at risk of flooding in the North East England:
- Wolsingham – Trod Beck
- Ponteland – River Pont
- Yarm – River Tees
- Middlesbrough – Marton West Beck
- Middlesbrough – Ormesby Beck
- Middlesbrough – Middle Beck
- Bishop Auckland – Tindale Beck
- West Auckland – River Gaunless/Oakley Cross Beck

The way in which schools participated in SHOCFlood varied but benefits included:
- £1500 funding for each community
- Support to develop and deliver cross-curricular work in the school, helping to raise pupil achievement and attainment
- Facilitation of key stake-holder partnerships
- Co-ordination of work between schools
- Support with community engagement
- Publicity and promotion
