Launched in March 2016, this Big Lottery Funded project was part of a wider initiative called ‘Our Brighter Future’. The ‘Our Brighter Future’ project targets young people living in YMCA Housing Schemes, Supported Lodgings and/or attending YMCA Youth Groups.
OASES was employed to deliver the project to YMCA North Tyneside in 2016/17. OASES enabled the group to develop an allotment plot and plant an orchard within a near by community allotment. The group also took part in outdoor cooking and organised a celebration event where they pressed their own apple juice.
The project brought together partners from both the environmental and young people’s sectors to work together to develop community orchards. The partnership board consisted of:

- YMCA
- International Tree Foundation (ITF)
- The Urban Orchardas Project (UOP)
