Creating Eco-Friendly Schools sought to address the Environmental Education and Improvement priority of the Place Board. Through the project we successfully:
- Increased pupil and staff awareness of the impact of negative activity and behaviour against the environment.
- Improved outdoor and open spaces (school grounds).
- Increased pupil pride in their school grounds and neighbourhood.
- Increased awareness of personal and collective responsibility
The project (Creating Eco-Friendly Schools) aimed to work with 4 schools within the target communities, to help them to engage with Eco-Schools – to gain the minimum of a Bronze Award. OASES successfully worked with 4 schools, helping 2 to complete the work to gain the Bronze Award and assisting 2 school to re-gain the Green Flag.
In each school OASES established/supported the creation of an Eco-Committee (composed of pupils, school staff and governors) to lead the process. This Eco-Committee then completed/reviewed their Environmental Review and developed an Eco-Schools Action Plan. Each school received several topic based support sessions, normally focused upon school grounds / biodiversity improvements.
