The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

Join us for a fun and creative session inspired by The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. Pupils will explore the story of Mr Grinling and his daily lunch delivery, before taking on the challenge of designing and creating their own pulley system to deliver his lunch basket.

Through hands-on activities, pupils will investigate how pulleys work in line with the national curriculum and use teamwork to create a system that can transport a basket from one place to another. The session also includes creative activities inspired by the lighthouse and the characters from the story.

This engaging outdoor session brings the story to life through practical challenges and creative play, giving young people the opportunity to explore simple engineering concepts while developing their imagination and teamwork skills.

What pupils will learn

• How pulleys work and how they can make moving objects easier
• How to test, adapt and improve a design
• How natural materials can be used to express a story
